Thank You to All Who Gave to the Convent Wall Project!!!
SCHF is happy to update you on our progress with the Convent Wall Project. The Convent building has been secured from further collapse. An evaluation of the building has been completed by a structural engineer, explaining the cause of the collapse. Plans are being drawn up to rebuild the exterior wall and repair the interior damage.
We are extremely happy to report that our wall collapse will be covered by insurance! We have a very large deductible that we are responsible for; but thanks to our SCHF members, St. Francis Alumni, individuals and organizations from the Vicksburg community, we have not only reached that deductible but surpassed it! This will allow SCHF to make additional repairs and renovations to this very special Mississippi Landmark.

Sangeet Sabah, Music & Dance Reflections of India, Sunday, April 24th at 2:00pm in the SCHF Auditorium. Come and enjoy an East Indian Music Event featuring a sitar player, an Indian flute player, a mridangam player, and dancers. Indian Classical Music is rooted in antiquity, with its origin in the ancient scriptures, Vedas, and traditions that have passed on for thousands of years. A distinctly oral form of music, the earliest known references of Hindustani classical music can be found in clay tables that have been unearthed from the various Indus Valley Civilization sites. Tablets depicting dancing girls which give references to the legendary temple dancers of classical times is yet another proof that music existed in a highly evolved form even then. The system of Indian music, known as Raga Sangeet, can be traced back nearly two thousand years. Indian classical music is principally based on melody and rhythm and is both elaborate and expressive. This event is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged and appreciated. For more information, please call the SCHF office at 601-631-2997 or email info@southernculture.org.
