The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation presents the inaugural “Holly Days” Arts and Crafts show Saturday, December 6th. “Holly Days” will feature a variety of vendors from the city and state to showcase their talents. The show will precede Vicksburg Main Street’s Annual Christmas Parade at 5 p.m. Vendor applications are now being accepted. Space is limited and acceptance to the Show will be based on the images of the crafts/art submitted with an application. Exhibit space is $40 for SCHF members and $50 for nonmembers. Press release. “The Dual Demo, Art and Cooking Show” Saturday, August 2nd at 6:00 p.m. This entertaining event will consist of an art and cooking demonstration by Robert St. John and Wyatt Waters. General admission is $25 with special limited V.I.P. and SUPER V.I.P. tickets available. The audience will be able to observe the cooking styles of St. John as he prepares a five-course meal. The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation welcomes a special performance of “Honoring Historic Mississippi Writers” in the SCHF Auditorium Saturday, August 9th at 6:00 p.m. This presentation is free and open to the public. Like all art forms, quilting has its “masters,” and Vicksburg's Martha Butcher Skelton is among them. Noted quilt scholar Mary Elizabeth Johnson chronicles Martha Skelton's life and her development into one of America's foremost quilt artists. More. SCHF is proud to present the Vicksburg Multicultural Arts Camp June 23-27 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. During this unique camp, children discover the art, dance, music and cuisine of different cultures, and will learn new artistic techniques while developing an appreciation for the traditions and customs of others. The SCHF has been awarded a $150,000 Community Heritage Preservation Grant to repair the exterior of the historic 1886 Italinate Auditorium. (The Community Heritage Preservation Grant program is administered by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Additional matching funds in the amount of $30,000 will bring the project to $180,000.) In addition to the MDAH grant, $196,000 has been approved as part of Senator Thad Chochran’s HUD Economic Development Initiatives portion of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill to renovate the interior of the building, including restoration of both floors, permanent gallery space, and eventually a lift to make the building handicapped accessible. |
