Vicksburg's Fall Pilgrimage will begin with a kickoff event
and art exhibit hosted in the SCHF Cobb House on Thursday evening, October
5, from 6 to 8 p.m.
"Our kickoff used to be a gala, but since the Cobb House
joined the tours and gave a new distinction as an arm of the Mississippi
Museum of Art, we decided to do an art exhibit of our participants," said
Tom Pharr, owner of Anchuca, one of the fifteen properties featured on
pilgrimage.
Pharr has photographed "unique nuances" at each of the 15
properties participating in pilgrimage. The "old meets new" digitally
altered photographs will be on display and for sale at the opening exhibit
in the Cobb House along with a champagne and dessert reception. The $25
ticket for the event can be purchased at the door or in advance at any of
the participating properties. All proceeds benefit future planning and
marketing of Vicksburg's pilgrimage.
Fall Pilgrimage will be every Friday through Sunday
throughout October. Admission is $6 per person per tour site. Admission is
paid at each tour site. The fall schedule will include evening ghost tours

The
Arts Blitz held at SCHF was a huge success! During the two week blitz,
children of all ages joined art teachers and volunteers to create 100 mural
panels to be installed at the Children's Art Park at Catfish Row.
Each day, individuals as well as youth groups, church groups, after school
programs, and girl and boy scout troops arrived with creative ideas for the
park and they were put to work.
The artwork reflected many different elements of art including line, shape,
color, texture, and value. Many of the panels depicted the children's
interpretation of Vicksburg landmarks.
Many thanks go to the committee responsible for planning the arts blitz. A
special thanks to Nancy Mitchell and the art students at Warren Central High
School for planning and leading the students each day.
Many volunteers added invaluable help throughout the two week event. Heather
Burns, SCHF volunteer and recent addition to the Vicksburg community,
arrived like clockwork each day and led a classroom of young artists in the
project daily. Thank you for your time and talent!
The panels will be returned to the City for a protective coating then
installed in the Art Park at Catfish Row for all to enjoy! |
