Arts Blitz SuccessThe Arts Blitz held at SCHF was a huge success! During the two week blitz, children of all ages joined art teachers and volunteers to create 100 mural panels to be installed at the Children's Art Park at Catfish Row. Each day, individuals as well as youth groups, church groups, after school programs, and girl and boy scout troops arrived with creative ideas for the park and they were put to work. The artwork reflected many different elements of art including line, shape, color, texture, and value. Many of the panels depicted the children's interpretation of Vicksburg landmarks. Many thanks go to the committee responsible for planning the arts blitz. A special thanks to Nancy Mitchell and the art students at Warren Central High School for planning and leading the students each day. Many volunteers added invaluable help throughout the two week event. Heather Burns, SCHF volunteer and recent addition to the Vicksburg community, arrived like clockwork each day and led a classroom of young artists in the project daily. Thank you for your time and talent! The panels will be returned to the City for a protective coating then installed in the Art Park at Catfish Row for all to enjoy! |
