2005 WINDOW RESTORATION PROJECTThe academy building of the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation will soon have a facelift. The 73 windows of the 1937 academy building will soon be sanded, re-glazed, primed, and painted thanks to the support and contributions of those who once spent many a day gazing out of them.
Many SCHF members and directors have noticed the need
for repair to the old classroom windows. The work on the 4x8 foot windows
will cost between $100 and $140 per window. The expense is more than SCHF
can spend, yet the work is badly needed. The enthusiasm and passion Linda felt toward the project and toward her old school was equally met through the many replies and contributions received. To date, the project has raised $6,615. Following is a list of the generous alumni who are responsible for saving the windows, and ultimately the classrooms and buildings, for use by future generations. Each year over 180 children take part in the free after school program offered in the academy building. Close to 100 children each week are spending time in the building this summer for various art and music classes. Thanks to these special contributors, these buildings will remain in use. The SCHF staff and Board of Directors join with Linda Styron in thanking those who have contributed so far to the 2005 Window Restoration Project. We have not yet met our goal, if you would like to be a part of this project, please send your tax-deductible gift to the SCHF office at 1302 Adams Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180. Please be sure to mark your check “Window Paint Project.” |
