The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is proud to
partner with the Vicksburg Music Teachers Association and the Mississippi
Music Teachers Association to present pianist Elizabeth Moak in concert
followed by a Piano Master Class.
Join us Sunday, January 22 at 3 p.m. in the SCHF
Auditorium, where Elizabeth Moak will present a short program and conclude
with a Piano Master Class featuring several Vicksburg students. The program
is made possible by a local affiliate grant from the Mississippi Music
Teachers Association as well as corporate and private event sponsors.
Pianist
Elizabeth Moak joined the music faculty at the University of Southern
Mississippi in August, 2004. Her recent performances include a tour of
France, including the Centre Acanthes/Avignon Festival and St. Lazare
Cathedral of Autun, where she was hailed for her "astounding colors" and
"powerful and spirited interpretation" (Le Journal de Saône-et-Loire).
Appearing regularly as soloist in recitals and with orchestras, Moak has
performed throughout the United States and Europe. Winner of the Mu Phi
Epsilon International Competition and several national competitions,
including the National Federation of Music Clubs Biennial Auditions, she has
been noted for her "sensitivity" and "generous imagination" (La Suisse,
Geneva, Switzerland).
Before joining the staff of USM, Moak previously
taught at Millsaps College, where she was honored with the "Outstanding
Young Faculty Award" in 2001. In 2003, she received a D.M.A. from the
Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
Music enthusiasts and students are encouraged to
attend. Both the performance and the Master Class are open to the public. A
$5 donation is suggested to ensure future MMA and SCHF programming.
The performance and the Piano Master Class will be
held in the SCHF Auditorium on the corner of Crawford and Cherry Streets.
Please use the Crawford Street Entrance.

Each
semester, SCHF welcomes children to participate in its free after school
arts program. The spring semester will begin on Thursday, January 26. The
program will be held every Thursday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
The River Kids Program is designed to encourage children to
discover and develop their creative talents. This free program is open to
children in 3rd grade through 6th grade.
River Kids Art exposes creativity through drawing, painting,
crafts, collage, ceramics, sculpture and many more exciting techniques.
Experienced educators plan and implement the classes each week. This
semester, we are pleased to welcome Karen Biedenharn as the director of the
program.
The program will culminate with a public exhibit at the end
of the semester. The students will have the chance to share with friends and
family as well as the community the things that they have learned and
created.
Reservations
are required. The after school program is free and filled on a first come,
first serve basis.
If you would like to enroll your young artist in the River
Kids program, please call the SCHF office at 601-631-2997, or stop by at
1302 Adams Street.
There is no fee to participate. The program is part of SCHF’s
commitment to provide all children with the opportunity to be enriched
through the arts. All supplies and instructors are provided by the generous
support of SCHF members, corporate sponsors, municipal allocations, and
grants from organizations such as the Mississippi Arts Commission. |
