2005 Window Restoration Project
The Ettinger Company was awarded the bid and has successfully completed the courtyard windows. The Cherry and Clay Street sides are expected to be finished by the middle of August. Following is a list of the generous alumni and friends who are responsible for saving the windows, and ultimately the classrooms and buildings, for use by future generations. Each year over 180 children take part in the free after school program offered in the academy building. Close to 100 children each week are spending time in the building this summer for various art and music classes. Thanks to these special contributors, these buildings will remain in use. Mercy Archives Summer Intern
Jered Lambiotte, a Vicksburg native, is a full-time student and President’s Scholar at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. His major is American Studies, with a concentration in History and English and a minor in Politics. In addition to working with SCHF’s Mercy Archives this summer, Jered spent time with the state archives learning techniques at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Jered has been a valuable addition to the SCHF staff this summer. He has volunteered his time and services to help organize and catalog the Mercy Archives. Instead of returning to Hendrix this fall, Jered has been accepted to the Washington Semester Program. Jered will be studying in Washington, D.C. where he will concentrate on American Politics. Jered will be missed around the office, but we are forever grateful to his time, commitment , and hard work. Good Luck, Jered! |

Summer Programming Success
SCHF has had such a busy and successful summer! From children’s camps, to
adult workshops, to holiday celebrations, archival work and building rehab -
it’s been busy! But none of it would have been possible without the help and
support of SCHF members and our generous volunteers! The summer started off with a bang with the 75th Old Mississippi River Bridge Celebration. SCHF partnered with the Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation to sponsor the Celebration. SHCF hosted a month long children’s art exhibit for the occasion and hosted the Celebration Dinner. Thanks to all who helped make the event and exhibit a success. For the first time this summer, SCHF had weekly mini art camps for kids. Monday afternoons, the Mini Monday camp was open to the public and taught drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture techniques. On Thursdays, the same art instructors returned and lead the kids of the Mississippi Prevention Service in the same great art lessons. Thanks so much to our many instructors and volunteers, including Stacy Copeland, Daisy Anderson, and Kathy Gibson. For the first time this year, Vicksburg extended it’s 4th of July Celebration to last a full weekend. We proudly joined with the Four Seasons of the Arts in planning and hosting the Navy Band and the Myles Family Gospel Singers. Thank you to the many volunteers who helped with the busy holiday weekend! The Multicultural Arts Camp in July was a huge success. Children learned the art, dance, music, customs, and cuisine of several different cultures. They also completed a fun cultural mural on the wall in the academy building. We could not have made it without our instructors Nancy Mitchell and Karla McHan or the many volunteer cooks, painters, and student helpers. In addition to the new activities, we continued to host adult workshops, ballroom dance, and our book club. Thanks to the many members and volunteers that make those events successful each month. Last, but certainly not least, is the window project. We are so proud to have Linda Styron as the chairman of the window committee. Her hard work shows in each completed window! A big thank you to Linda and the many who joined with her to make the project a reality. This summer has been a busy one, but it is only just the beginning. SCHF grows each season. Thank you for your continued support and for making each of these projects successful. If you are interested in volunteering, we have something to fit every interest. River KidsSCHF will continue to offer the River Kids After School Arts Program this fall. The program is free of charge for up to 180 children each year. The
window project has begun! Linda Stryon along with SCHF friends and the
alumni of St. Francis Xavier Academy successfully raised the funds needed to
repair, sand, re-glaze, and re-paint all 73 windows in the academy building.
Ballroom
Dance
The
SCHF offers monthly ballroom dance classes. James Frechette, owner of
Applause Dance Factory in Ridgeland, teaches classes in ballroom, Latin,
swing and many other styles of dance.
SCHF
has taken great strides toward reaching out archival goals this summer
thanks to the help of Jered Lambiotte, SCHF’s summer intern.
